Peer Review Policy

Rigel. Revista de estética y filosofía del arte follows a rigorous and transparent peer review process to maintain the academic quality, originality, and scholarly integrity of all published contributions. Manuscripts submitted to the journal are initially examined by the editorial team to determine whether they fall within the journal’s scope and meet the basic requirements concerning academic relevance, originality, structure, and presentation. Manuscripts that do not meet these preliminary requirements may be returned to the authors for revision or declined before external review.

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial assessment are normally sent to qualified independent reviewers with appropriate expertise in the subject area. The journal generally follows a double-anonymous peer review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential to the extent practicable. Reviewers are selected according to their academic expertise, research experience, and familiarity with the topic of the manuscript. The journal seeks to avoid conflicts of interest and expects reviewers to disclose any circumstances that could affect their impartiality.

Reviewers are asked to assess the manuscript objectively and provide constructive comments concerning its originality, relevance, theoretical foundation, methodology where applicable, use of sources, clarity of argument, scholarly contribution, organization, and overall academic quality. Reviewers should identify significant errors or weaknesses and may recommend acceptance, acceptance subject to revisions, resubmission after substantial revision, or rejection. The final editorial decision is made by the Editor or Editorial Board after considering the reviewers’ reports and the overall suitability of the manuscript for the journal.

Where reviewers provide conflicting recommendations, the editorial team may seek an additional independent review or undertake further editorial assessment before reaching a decision. Authors may be requested to revise their manuscripts in response to reviewer comments. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers when the revisions are substantial or when further assessment is considered necessary. Submission of a revised manuscript does not guarantee acceptance.

The journal expects reviewers to maintain strict confidentiality throughout the review process. Manuscripts and associated materials must not be shared, copied, used for personal or professional advantage, or discussed with others without authorization from the journal. Reviewers should evaluate manuscripts solely on scholarly merit and should not allow personal, institutional, ideological, or other considerations to influence their assessment.

Rigel. Revista de estética y filosofía del arte also expects reviewers and editors to observe high standards of academic and ethical conduct. Any concerns relating to plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabrication, falsification, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or other forms of research misconduct may be investigated in accordance with appropriate scholarly publishing practices. The journal reserves the right to take suitable editorial action where ethical concerns arise.

The editorial decision-making process is independent of the reviewers’ recommendations. Reviewers provide expert advice, while responsibility for the final decision rests with the journal’s editorial leadership. The journal aims to conduct peer review in a timely manner while ensuring that sufficient attention is given to the quality and scholarly significance of each submission.
